If the output in the console following a failed attempt at report generation includes the error "pdflatex: The operation could not be completed because the following file failed verification:", then you may have a firewall issue preventing MiKTeX from downloading and installing the required packages for PDF generation.
This can usually be remedied by choosing a package repository in MiKTeX that uses the HTTP protocol (as opposed to FTP, which is firewalled by many universities and hospitals). The repository can be changed through MiKTeX' package manager.
From the Windows start menu while viewing the program folders,
- Click on "MiKTeX 2.9"->"Maintenance (Admin)"->"Package Manager (Admin)".
- Select Repository->"Change Package Repository..." in the menu bar.
- Select "Packages Shall be installed from the Internet"->Next.
- Choose a repository in your country that uses HTTP, and click Finish.
You can then attempt report generation again. In some cases, an appropriate error message is not written to the console in the above step. In this case, follow these steps.
